9. Preproduction Concept Design Moodboards

MOOD BOARDS

For this section we'll be creating 7 mood boards for the characters as well as the COSTUMES AND PROPS FOR each of them. we'll be using these mood boards to express the personalities of the characters and represent our film sub-genre which is 'splatter'. also, we created some mood boards for the sub-genre, location and overall film; making sure that we include elements of our trailer/synopsis.

COSTUME MOOD-BOARD:

This would be the costume for the two characters leo and Jessica where leo is represented by the celebrity Wiz khalifa and Jessica by Actress Nina Dobrev. The type of costume Jessica wears are high waisted shorts/jeans, converse/vans and a crop top. essentially, this would represent your typical teenage girl entering her adulthood (age 18). Leo is both your decent but also wild character although, he leans more towards your bad teenager that smokes and wears a style of clothing to show off with. Leo wears vlados, chinos, slim fit jeans, floral design jackets, crooks&castle shoes, and supreme jumpers. I chose this type of costume for leo because that's the contemporary 'hipster' style of clothes worn by young adults/teenagers.

I've chosen these costumes for these characters because of the connotations that they would have and how they connotations are then able to represent the respective characters. The costume for Michael and Philip are like opposites in terms of their social representation in society. Michael's costume would represent a person who is intelligent, well behaved, mature, well-mannered and sensible. in comparison to Philip, his costume portrays a person who's wild, rude, unruly, mischievous and loud. Their character's costumes essentially defines who what type of person the characters and their personalities.

I decided to dedicate an entire mood-board to Scarlett as she is the antagonist and is one of the characters that changes the most through the story. I've given her a sort of tom boy outfit to represent her because her role as the antagonist has a very masculine connotation. Some characters i've used to represent her is the joker who is portrayed as a mad man. as a result, you people can connote that scarlett will eventually be a insane person and someone you don't want to mess with. Another character i chose as a representation is Morgana who is a dark sorceress is the merlin series; once an innocent princess turned into a dark, sinister person. I also gave this mood-board a bloody theme as scarlett will be torturing her victims and because the sub-genre is a splatter.

Props mood-board:
This is our prop mood-board ranging different iconic weapons as well as props that may feature in our trailer.
We had a range of suggestions to use as torture weapons as well as the killers main weapon:

Locations Mood-board: The location we've chosen is the college because the story mainly takes place within the college. Parts of the college we'd be featuring in our trailer would be hallways/corridors, classroom, changing room, toilets, tools workshop and an abandoned area where it's kind of like forestation. The abandoned/forestation sort of location would be where scarlett's supposed body would be dumped. Additionally, the tools workshop would be where they tortured scarlett. I also included a reflection as something similar may be used within the trailer.

Sub-Genre Mood-board: Our sub-genre is splatter which would consist of a lot of explicit content and gore. I used a lot of the previously iconic villains such as Freddy Krueger from Nightmare of elm street. the other images used are essentially torture victims because of the increasing popularity of 'torture porn' in the recent era of horror films.

Film mood-board: This is our over-all mood-board which sums up our concept as a whole and represents different content about our concept. we have our characters; Scarlett right in the middle in the phone where she's got her mouth cut while the phone is how she would regain contact with her former friends. Leo on the top left who is a nice person however has his dark sides. Philip on the top right whose known to be a vice and a dangerous person. Jessica on the bottom left is your party goer who loves her alcohol especially vodka. Finally, Michael on the bottom right is our protagonist who is not necessarily is your 'pure' human being however isn't a despicable human being like the rest of his friends.
